School Improvement Targets

Our School Development Priorities 2025–2026

At Fulwell Infant School Academy, we are always looking at ways to improve learning, wellbeing and opportunities for all children. This year, our key priorities focus on strengthening reading, developing an exciting curriculum, promoting positive behaviour, supporting inclusion and ensuring every child thrives.

1. Early Reading and Phonics

We are continuing to strengthen phonics and early reading across Nursery to Year 2 so that all children become fluent, confident readers.

This year we will:

  • Improve consistency in phonics teaching across school
  • Provide more targeted support for children who need extra help
  • Ensure home reading books match children’s phonics learning
  • Promote a love of reading through exciting books, storytelling and our “Starbooks” library
  • Encourage regular reading at home through rewards and incentives

Our aim is for children to leave Key Stage 1 as confident readers who enjoy books and reading.

2. Curriculum, Maths and Oracy

We are developing an ambitious and engaging curriculum that helps children “learn more and remember more.”

This year we will:

  • Focus on key knowledge and vocabulary in every subject
  • Develop children’s speaking and listening skills across the curriculum
  • Provide more practical and outdoor learning opportunities
  • Strengthen maths fluency and problem-solving skills
  • Continue to celebrate diversity and enrichment experiences

We want children to be curious learners who can confidently talk about what they have learned.

3. Behaviour and Attitudes

We are continuing to strengthen positive behaviour systems and routines across school so that children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Our focus includes:

  • Clear and consistent expectations across school
  • Positive relationships and respectful behaviour
  • Helping children develop independence and resilience
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and positive attitudes to learning

4. Leadership and School Improvement

We are continuing to develop leadership across school so that all subjects remain high quality and continue to improve.

This includes:

  • Developing subject leadership roles
  • Monitoring teaching and learning closely
  • Providing staff training and coaching
  • Working closely with governors and the Trust

5. Early Years Provision

We are strengthening links between Nursery and Reception to ensure smooth progression and a language-rich start to school life.

This year we will:

  • Develop communication and language skills
  • Promote wellbeing and inclusion
  • Ensure consistent approaches across EYFS
  • Provide exciting play-based learning opportunities

6. SEND and Inclusion

We are continuing to develop inclusive teaching so that all children, including those with SEND and lower starting points, achieve well.

Our priorities include:

  • Adaptive teaching in every classroom
  • Early identification and support
  • Targeted interventions
  • Ensuring every child feels valued, included and successful

Our Overall Aim

We want Fulwell Infant School Academy to continue to be a happy, inclusive and ambitious school where:

  • children feel safe and valued
  • learning is exciting and meaningful
  • every child achieves their best
  • strong foundations are built for future success

We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with families throughout the year.
