At Fulwell Infant School, we want every child to develop a love of reading and writing while becoming confident speakers, listeners and learners.
The Year 1 and Year 2 English curriculum documents provide an overview of the key texts children will study throughout the year, alongside the reading, spelling, handwriting and writing skills they will develop.
Our carefully chosen texts inspire learning across the curriculum and help children develop vocabulary, comprehension, creativity and a deeper understanding of the world around them. Reading and writing are taught in a connected way, enabling children to apply new skills in meaningful and engaging contexts.
The curriculum is planned to ensure that knowledge and skills build progressively over time, helping children to develop fluency, accuracy and confidence in all aspects of English. Spelling, handwriting, grammar and punctuation are taught alongside reading and writing so that children can apply these skills independently in their work.
