Vincent Van Gogh
Our Year 1 artists have been learning about the work of Vincent Van Gogh as part of our art curriculum, exploring how artists use colour, texture and expressive mark making to communicate feelings and ideas. Through studying Van Gogh’s famous paintings, including Sunflowers and Starry Night, the children discovered how he used bold colours, thick brushstrokes, curves and swirling lines to bring movement and life to his artwork.
During this unit, the children explored Van Gogh’s distinctive style using pastels to create texture, blend colour and add detail to their work. They carefully observed the shapes and patterns within the flowers whilst experimenting with line, shading and colour choice to recreate the warmth and richness of the original painting. Through this process, the children developed increasing control, confidence and creativity as young artists.
Each sunflower piece is unique and reflects the individuality of the child who created it. Please enjoy our Class 6 Year 1 gallery celebrating the expressive work of Vincent Van Gogh and the wonderful creativity of our children.
